Field work: green pruning

by vinsiolisuner / Thursday, 25 June 2015 / Published in BLOG

Respecting the natural cycle of the vine, this should always be perfected in its evolution to the grower, this is why we do a series of works in the field including “pruning.” As the vine plant is a tree, vine and unlimited growth, we must control it. During the long, cold winter pruning, work on the primary goal was to maintain the structure of our stocks and balance them with vigor production to try and get regular yields and good quality. After arrival of spring, the next step, the green pruning.

This practice includes the set of practices that I will make pruning during the growing strain. Its purpose is to supplement winter pruning to maintain the balance between vegetative growth and fruiting, and get some health conditions more efficient afovorir aeration and facilitate the application of pesticides.

One of the most common practices that we have done during the months of April-May, is to prune.

This operation involves removing the buds that are born from old wood, both the trunk and arms, respecting exceptionally those that can be used to substitute any or no arm or to leave more load cases which has been a severe pruning too.

This operation is convenient to do it as soon as possible, while the buds have consistency grass. Thus strain and therefore suffers no operation pays more.

The foundation of all this work is to remove the “burden” is left on the ground to improve the performance and quality of the grapes because it reduces the number of bunches per vine and then the concentration of sugar and polyphenols is higher.
